Moving Countdown
A one-page timeline for a calmer move
- 4–6 weeks out: declutter (keep, sell, donate, toss), book movers or a truck, and get boxes
- 3–4 weeks: pack the rooms you use least, like storage, guest rooms and decor
- 2 weeks: submit your USPS change of address (allow 7–10 business days after it's approved)
- 2 weeks: tell your bank, employer, insurers and subscriptions your new address. USPS won't forward some sensitive mail.
- 1 week: pack everything except daily basics
- Last 2 days: pack the open-first box (sheets, chargers, medicines, toilet paper, soap, one pan, plates)
- Moving day: walk every room and closet before you lock up
